This Privacy Policy explains how GuyaneseJobs.com (“GuyaneseJobs”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores, and shares personal data when you use https://guyanesejobs.com and related services (the “Site”).
We designed this notice to follow common job-board practice and the principles in Guyana’s Data Protection Act, No. 18 of 2023 (the “DPA”), including fairness, purpose limitation, data minimisation, accuracy, storage limitation, integrity and confidentiality, and accountability. It is a site policy, not legal advice. If the DPA’s remaining commencement orders change what we must do, we will update this page.
1. Who is responsible
GuyaneseJobs is the data controller for personal data collected through the Site. Contact: privacy@guyanesejobs.com or hello@guyanesejobs.com.
The Site is hosted on Amazon Web Services (Lightsail). Processors who help us run the Site may include our hosting provider, email delivery, analytics or security plugins, and payment processors if you buy a listing package.
2. Personal data we collect
Depending on how you use the Site, we may collect:
- Account data: name, email, username, password (stored hashed), role (candidate, employer, or similar).
- Profile and application data: CV/resume files, work history, education, skills, phone number, location, cover letters, and messages you send through the Site.
- Employer and listing data: company name, job descriptions, contact emails for applications, billing details if you purchase a posting package.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, and cookie identifiers.
- Communications: emails or form messages you send us.
We do not require sensitive data (health, religion, biometrics, etc.) to use the Site. Do not include that in a public profile unless you choose to.
3. Why we use it (legal bases)
- To provide the service (contract / steps before a contract): create accounts, publish jobs, send applications to employers, show dashboards.
- Legitimate interests: keep the Site secure, prevent fraud and spam, understand which pages work, improve listings quality.
- Consent: optional marketing email, non-essential cookies, and any processing you clearly opt into. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: tax, accounting, or a lawful request from authorities in Guyana.
4. Applications and CVs
When you apply for a job, the employer (or their agency) receives the information you submit. They become an independent controller of that copy. Their privacy practices are theirs, not ours. Remove a CV from your GuyaneseJobs profile at any time; that does not retract copies already sent to an employer.
5. Cookies
We use cookies and similar tools that are:
- Strictly necessary — login, security, shopping cart for paid listings;
- Functional — remember preferences;
- Analytics — understand traffic, if enabled.
You can block cookies in your browser. Some features (especially logged-in areas) will not work without necessary cookies. Where the DPA requires opt-in for non-essential cookies, we will ask before setting them.
6. Sharing
We share personal data only as needed to run the Site:
- Employers, when you apply or make a profile visible to them;
- Hosting, email, security, and (if used) payment providers under contract;
- Professional advisers or authorities when the law requires it;
- A buyer of the business, with notice, if the Site is sold.
We do not sell your personal data.
7. International transfers
Servers may sit outside Guyana (including the United States, via AWS). If we transfer personal data out of Guyana, we will use safeguards consistent with the DPA once the relevant rules are in force, such as contracts with processors and limiting what they can do with the data.
8. Retention
We keep account and listing data while your account is open and for a reasonable period after (typically up to 24 months) unless you ask us to delete it sooner or the law requires a longer hold (for example invoices). Server logs are kept for a shorter security window. Backups roll off on a schedule.
9. Security
The Site uses HTTPS. Access to admin tools is limited. No method of transmission is perfectly secure. Tell us promptly at the emails above if you think an account was misused.
10. Your rights
Subject to the DPA and any exemptions, you may request to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate data;
- Erase data we no longer need;
- Restrict or object to certain processing;
- Receive a portable copy of data you provided;
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it.
Use privacy@guyanesejobs.com. We may need to verify it is you. You may also complain to Guyana’s data protection authority when it is operating.
11. Children
The Site is for people who can lawfully work. It is not directed at children under 16. If we learn we collected data from a child without a lawful basis, we will delete it.
12. Changes
We will post updates on this page and change the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be flagged on the Site or by email if we have your address.
